DVC Drama’s talented and dedicated faculty and staff guide aspiring theater artists through a variety of course subjects and live theatrical productions. Students learn the roles of actors, directors, playwrights, and designers through classes like acting, directing, voice and movement, musical theater, audition techniques, children’s theater, acting on camera, multiculturalism in American Theater, theory and techniques of stage lighting; aesthetics, materials, and procedures of stage makeup; costume design and construction, props design and construction, acting fundamentals, stage management, stage design in scenery, lighting, sound, props, costume and makeup.
Most careers related to theater require education beyond the associate degree, however, the technical theater program helps students develop an understanding and mastery of technical theater skills that will prepare them for work in local community and professional theater in many of the following careers: set designer, makeup artist, lighting designer, stage manager, scenic artist, set builder, set painter, stage technician, sound technician, prop artisan and light operator.
