Carrie Mullen is an adjunct professor of technical theatre, a scenic and lighting designer for the stage, and a teaching artist. Her primary areas of teaching are technical theatre, scenic painting, and design. Carrie has been designing and painting in the Drama Department at Diablo Valley College since Spring of 2016, and she joined the department as an instructor, in Spring of 2018. Her professional experience includes independent services in Scenic and Lighting Design, and technical theatre for the stage, in the San Francisco Bay Area since 2008, working as an adjunct professor for Los Rios Community College District at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento, Designer/Art Director for the youth program, Stage Door Conservatory in Berkeley 2009-2013, and contracted scenic and lighting designer/tech director for Marin Catholic High School between 2009-2017. Carrie is a member of “The Root Theatre Company” founded in Redding, CA, and the First Prize winner of the International Peace Poster Design Contest for Legends of China; Silk Road to the Future, Beijing 2007. Carrie has a Master of Fine Arts degree in Dramatic Art, Design, from UC Davis, and a Bachelor’s Degree in technical theatre from Sonoma State University. She is interested in theatre for social change, musical theatre, environmental and immersive design elements. And also educational theatre and its affect on the well being of the community, creating enriching experiences for young people, and the continuing experience of the arts as a means for expression.
