Ryan Weible has been directing, acting, and teaching for 20 years in New York, Los Angeles, and the San Francisco Bay Area. He holds a Master’s Degree from NYU and a Bachelor’s from San Diego State.
While in New York, Ryan worked for the Education Department at Roundabout Theatre Company, and directed three premieres. As an Assistant Director, he worked on the Public Theatre revival of Larry Kramer’s The Normal Heart. He also worked with the world-renowned theatre critic, theorist, and foremost Brecht translator, Eric Bentley, on the Off-Broadway revivals of Threepenny Opera and Mother Courage. On Broadway, Ryan worked as the Script Supervisor and Assistant to the Librettist for the Broadway production of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and as a Dramaturgical Research Assistant for the Broadway production of Stephen Sondheim’s Assassins at Studio 54, starring Neil Patrick Harris.
In addition to his directorial pursuits, Ryan Co-Produced two major events in New York City: the New York Winners’ Workshop and Awards Ceremony for the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts, and the debut CD release concert, Fifteen Seconds of Grace, for Tony Award® winner Victoria Clark. While in graduate school, Ryan collaborated on III at the Cherry Lane Theater, with NYU Professor Joe Salvatore, which was the recipient of the 2008 Overall Excellence Award for Outstanding Play at the New York International Fringe Festival, and which was published in The Best Plays of 2008.
Since his return to the West Coast, Ryan directed award-winning productions of The Producers and Thoroughly Modern Millie, was commissioned to create a re-imagined production of Into The Woods, and directed the Northern California premiere of rogerandtom by Julien Schwab. Most recently, he was selected as a Director to participate in Lincoln Center’s Directors Lab West and commissioned/directed a new play by, for, and about the Trans community with Evolve Theatre (the company for which he serves as Founding Artistic Director), entitled: Choosing Us*.
